A Fresh Chapter for a Local Favourite
Handsome Men’s Club is returning to The Westernport, and it already feels like catching up with an old mate. For years, these quarterly events have given blokes a reason to get together, tell a story and enjoy each other's company.
From “Poorly Named” to Proudly Claimed
When the Phillip Island and San Remo Advertiser wrote about the club years ago, they captured exactly what made it special. The tone was playful and a bit irreverent, poking fun at the name while still recognising that these luncheons are about camaraderie, silly jokes, and a relaxed chance for local blokes to check in with each other.
At its heart, that has not changed. Handsome Men’s Club is still:
Informal and tongue-in-cheek
Focused on mateship and shared stories
A laid-back afternoon and night where no one takes themselves too seriously
A chance to switch off, eat well, and have a laugh
What has shifted is the intention behind it. We are thinking more deliberately about inclusion, mental wellbeing, and genuine connection. The humour is still there, but there is an added layer of care. We want the club to feel just as natural for a younger tradie who has just moved to town as it does for the old regulars who know every bar stool by memory.
New Energy, Same Great Night
Since The Westernport changed ownership, one of our priorities has been to protect the spirit of the place while opening more doors to the community. Handsome Men’s Club sits right at the centre of that. We see it as part of the venue’s heartbeat, alongside our live music, family dining, and other San Remo events that bring people together.
The big aim this time around is to broaden who is in the room. We still love the long-time regulars, but we also want to see:
Men in their 20s, 30s and 40s
Tradies grabbing a knock-off catch-up
Professionals keen to connect outside work
Dads looking for a night that is not just kids’ sport sidelines
Newcomers to San Remo and Phillip Island finding their feet
Even with that fresh focus, the structure of the luncheon stays familiar. There will be good food from our kitchen, a guest speaker, plenty of banter, drinks and a no-pressure vibe. You are free to join in or just listen and soak it up. That mix is what has always made the club work, so we are not about to mess with it.
